When you're looking into buying a home, some of the factors many tend to overlook are the amenities accessible from your potential neighborhood. What makes your community great to be a part of?

City and neighborhood parks exist to preserve the natural beauty of an area while simultaneously giving residents a place to socialize, play, or simply enjoy a slow moment in our otherwise busy lives.

The parks of Alexandria account for over 1,400 acres of open space. Here you will find athletic fields, tennis and basketball courts, playgrounds, picnic areas, over 20 miles of trails where you can enjoy walking, jogging, or biking, 18 parks for the furry, four legged residents of Alexandria, seven pools and much more.

When you're looking into buying a home in Alexandria, be sure to take a look at what parks and recreational facilities are available to you. Our sense of community is just one more reason why real estate in Alexandria is so in demand.

Community Gardens

As part of the Healthy Food Alexandria initiative, community gardens are offered where Alexandria residents are encouraged to grow fruits, vegetables, and spices. This has been done to encourage awareness and access to locally grown foods.

Chinaquapin Community Gardens offers 15x20 feet plots.

Holmes Run Community Gardens offer 15 x 18 feet plots.

GW Community Gardens are located on the George Washington Middle School grounds and maintained by a committee of local citizens.

ARHA Community Gardens is using their area to begin a gardening and nutrition program for ARHA families.

Get Involved

The residents of Alexandria truly care about the city, ensuring that the communities and neighborhoods here will continue to thrive and grow. It's part of what makes purchasing in a home in Alexandria a sound investment in your future.

Preserving the natural beauty of Alexandria is just one way you can get involved. Join with your like minded neighbors in an effort to preserve and beautify the community.

The parks and recreation department offers Adopt-A-Garden and Adopt-A-Park programs. Adopting a garden will place you or your group in charge of maintaining a garden plot on a local, public property. Adopting a park consists of visiting your designated park at least once a week from April to November to clean up and monitor the area.

Whether you’re taking your kids to play with the state of the art playground equipment, using the trails or sports fields to get a little exercise, or simply enjoying a warm day under the trees, take advantage of the parks of Alexandria nearest you and your potential neighborhood.
